a new feminist list you might find worthwhile. I haven't signed on
to view it, so I don't have any further details at this point. The
message has been cross-posted from WMST-L and SWIP, so apologies for

I am writing both to call your attention to PRAXNEX, a fairly new
moderated list for feminist activist networking and discussion, and to let
you know where you can find more information about > 200 women-related
e-mail lists. Frequently-updated information about women-related lists is
available on the Web or via gopher or e-mail. The Web URL is
http://www.umbc.edu/wmst/forums.html . On gopher, gopher to
gopher.umbc.edu and select Academic Department Info, then Women's Studies,
and then Electronic Forums of Interest to Women. Via e-mail, send the
message GET OTHER LISTS to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . You will receive a very
large file; some systems can't handle files this big, so if you can, you're
better off using the WWW or gopher if you can.
As for PRAXNEX, here's the information I have (I have no
affiliation with this list, but it seems like the sort of list many WMST-L
subscribers might like to know about):
PRAXNEX:
PRAXIS NEXUS: FEMINIST ACTIVISM
Praxis is the action.
Nexus is the place.
In January, 1996, a group of feminists at the University of
Victoria organized a conference: "Praxis Nexus: feminist
methodology, theory, community". As one of many actions,
participants decided to set up an electronic network for
maintaining contact and continuing the discussions at the
conference.
PRAXNEX is a list intended for feminist activists to be used for
networking and discussion. Participants from the conference
suggest that those who subscribe and are part of the list have a
commitment to provide information on this list to feminist
activists who do not have access to computers or e-mail.
Topics for discussion on the list reflect the themes of the
conference, for example:
* interest in feminist, lesbian, anti-racist, anti-
classist, non-ableist, anti-colonialist, eco-feminist
activism
* personal experience in feminist activism
* successful and unsuccessful community projects
* the politics of doing feminist activism and being a
feminist activist
* activism against violence against women
* feminist community projects organized around housing,
health, poverty, sex, children, adolescents, literacy, and
so on
* the 'split' in feminism between community feminists and
academic feminists
* methodological and epistemological debates in feminism
* being a feminist scholar activist and a feminist
activist scholar
Subscriptions and messages to the list are distributed through
the list moderator. No messages are edited, monitored, or
censored in any way. The list is maintained by a committee of
women attending the conference. Please contact any of the
