LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS
LOCATION: The SIUE campus in Edwardsville, Illinois is located on 2600 acres
of forest and prairie overlooking the Mississippi River bottom lands, about
30 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri. The campus is just north of Exit 9 on
I-270, at the intersection with Rte. 157.
LODGING: Rooms are being held for the SWIP conference at a new Comfort Inn
located 2.7 miles from the SIUE campus, just north of the I-270 intersection
on Rte 157. For reservations, call (800) 221-2222 and mention SWIP.
Single: $45; two double beds for 2-4 persons: $49; (rooms/suites with
in-room jacuzzis are also available for more $). The motel provides free
continental breakfast, an indoor pool, wheelchair accessible rooms, and a
full security system. Please make your reservations before SEPTEMBER 23, to
be guaranteed a room. Free housing will not be available. Contact Peg
Simons to find a roommate for the motel.
AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION: Rental cars are available at the St. Louis
International Airport (30 minutes away) from Avis (800) 331-1212 for a
special weekend promotional rate of approx. $26/day, unlimited mileage. Van
service is available from H&G Transportation (800) 294-4427, which is
offering SWIP a discounted price of $25 round-trip airport transportation:
$15 arrival and $10 return. Available by reservation only. Mention SWIP.
FOOD: We'll provide maps to local eateries. But there are no restaurants
within easy walking distance of either the motel or SIUE. To arrange
transportation from the motel to a restaurant for dinner on Friday evening,
please contact Peg Simons, or the van service, in advance. Continental
Breakfast will be available at the Comfort Inn; lunch on Friday and Saturday
will be available at the cafeteria on campus. We'll have coffee and tea
throughout the conference.
PARTY: A gala dinner party and dance, with a d.j., is scheduled for
Saturday night. Tickets will be available at registration on a sliding
scale from $10 to $15. Bring your favorite tapes or c.d.'s. A pre-dinner
informal reception will a cash bar will be held in an adjoining lounge,
which will remain open during the party.
CHILD CARE: If you need child care arrangements, please contact Peg Simons,
as soon as possible. Arrangements will be on an individual basis and must
be made in advance.
ACCESSIBILITY: The motel and conference sites are wheelchair accessible.
