Jackie, Michael, Stokely and Anthony, Thank you for your thoughts on the subject. Your information was very helpful. But who is Bill Mollison? I hadn't thought about networks and permaculture, it's something I should investigate. I think Michael made sense - >I believe that some form of stock market could still exist in a >sustainable system. The recent rapid increases in the stock market are >based on transfers of wealth to the rich and conversion of nature into >capital. In a sustainable system, stock prices would tend to only >increase slowly, if at all, over long periods of time. I am still confused by the concept of investments and how it works. For example, I understand how chain letters work and why they are illegal (because they can't expand indefinitely), but what's the difference between the chain letter concept and a market system that is based on making investments which will expand (even beyond inflation), why doesn't the whole thing eventually collapse? I don't get it? Suzanne
