I have been listening to the veggie debate for a while, and have noticed that
much of the discussion centers around MORALITY.
I am a Vegetarian for simple non-moral energy-efficiency reasons.
I admit that I don't have any moral problems killing animals, but I think that
it is fairly inefficient (perhaps this could translate into a moral) to eat red
meat and other meats from a global energy viewpoint. [Given the simple facts
that a pound of red meat uses about 100 times as much energy to be produced by a
cow than one pound of grain.]
And although I am a vegetarian by apriori reasoning, there are some nice side
effects. For instance, if you visit someone for dinner, and did not get a
chance to tell them you are a vegetarian, and they have cooked a wonderful
turkey for dinner (*gasp*), since the damage is already done, i.e. the demand
for the meat created and the energy wasted, it seems to me an even bigger waste
to not eat the meat in front of you, especially if there are leftovers.
