Thank you for posting your excellent interview. I teach Women and Eco
Development wiht a heavy emphasis on Ecofem analysis and Community
Economic Development solutions. Your interview gets downloaded pronto
for use in the class--I esp liked the "white guys perspiring too much
comment. The idea of allowing poor people control over chooice would
blow most "advanced" peoples minds. I was also interested in the
discussion of charities. I and some of my students have just started a
private nonprofit to do CED work. Your interview will also be distributed

Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to you to invite you to attend the ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
FAIR, organised by the Institute of Environmental Communication of the
University of Lueneburg, under the auspices of the Secretary-General of the
Council of Europe. The event, to be held in Lueneburg from 24 to 26 September
1997, is organised in liaison with DG XI of the Commission of the European
Communities (CEC), the SOCRATES Programme and the LEONARDO Programme of the
CEC.
The Fair will be officially opened at 6 pm on Wednesday the 24th September
and presentations and displays of projects will take place over the course
of Thursday (25th) and Friday (26th). It shall be closed at 5 pm on Friday
the 26th September. Delegates flying in from other European countries should
plan a sightseeing visit to Hamburg or other parts of Germany, so that they
can benefit from cheaper air fares (APEX) which usually require a Saturday
overnight stay.
You will find enclosed some information on the aims and objectives of the
Fair, as well as on the format of presentations and displays. No matter
whether you are a large company, a small firm, educational institution, NGO
or indeed a teacher or student, the Fair will offer you the possibility to
get acquainted with the latest developments on environmental education,
recent projects and the work performed by European institutions. English
will be the official language of the event, although we expect that,
reflecting the European diversity, our guests will bring materials in other
languages as well.
In order to enable us to enter your name and the name of your organisation
on the Fair's database and on the Fair's official guide, we would like to
kindly request you to complete the enclosed form and that you return it to
me as soon as possible. We will then contact you again to check your
requirements in terms of space and hardware. We hope to be able to provide
not only space for posters, displays and fliers, but also some computers
(Macs and PCs) where computer-based initiatives may be displayed. These will
have to be booked in advance, so that at least one hour is allocated to each

WHAT IS THE EUROPAN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION FAIR?
The Fair is an European event aimed at presenting new approaches, projects
and methods of technology-based environmental education, as well as
publications in this field from European countries. It consists of a unique
opportunity being provided to European organisations involved in the field
of environmental education and information, to display their products,
disseminate their projects and technologies on environmental information and
to interact with German experts working in the area.
WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?
The event consists of two sectors. On sector 1, a display of projects,
computer programmes, internet-based projects and pubications on
environmental education of wide interest is being organised. It will occupy
the Exhibition Hall of the University of Lueneburg where, for the two and a
half days of the event, materials will be displayed. Sector 2 consists of
seminar sessions, where presentations on various aspects related to
environmental education research (both in formal and non-formal teaching),
projects and information-based technologies on environmental education will
be presented. Four seminar rooms, with varied capacity, located at the same
building as the Exhibition Hall, will cater for the maximum interaction
between exhibitors, speakers and participants.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Any person or institution involved with environmental education and
interested to display and disseminate his/her work is encouraged to attend
the meeting. No matter if you wish to present the results of a research
study, the outcomes of a project, your latest publication or the result of
multi-media initiatives (including internet based projects) the Fair will
give you the opportunity to put the message across. As the meeting is being
organised in liaison with the Commission of the European Communities (CEC),
if your project has been supported through awards in the context of
SOCRATES, LEONARDO, ERASMUS or DG XI, you are especially encouraged to
attend, since it will give you an extra opportunity to interact with fellow
awardees.
HOW CAN WE PARTICIPATE
Participation at the Fair is subject to pre-registration. If you wish to
attend, either in sector 1 or 2 (or in both), you will need to complete the
"Registration and Abstract Form" as soon as possible, but not later the 30th
May 1997. Unfortunately, late entries cannot be processed.
HOW MUCH DOES MY ATTENDANCE COST?
Fees for participants are DM 130 for a single sector or DM 200 for both
sectors. This entitles participants to the event's folder, refreshments
during the opening time of the displays, display space and inclusion in the
official Fair programme. For organisations from Central & Eastern Europe,
fees can be reduced or waived, according to each case.
