Women s Rights during Privatization Project
In Central Europe and Eurasia
Project Description
The success of privatization programs throughout the ECE and
the NIS is being jeopardized unnecessarily by employers failure to utilize
existing human resources and by the
states failure to engage citizens in the privatization
process. To influence these trends, Women, Law, and
Development International is conducting a project, funded by
USAID, to enhance the competitiveness of the privatizing
economies of Poland, Russia, Ukraine, and Bulgaria by
encouraging the full participation of women in their
national economies. The project is a five-year research and
advocacy effort, with the first year being the research
component.
Summary
The Research and Technical Assistant will work in
collaboration with the Project Director in Washington; the
four field directors in Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia, and
Poland; and the Accounting staff. She will work together
with the Director on the research design and monitoring and
evaluation system. In addition, she will assist with report
editing and writing. The Research and Technical Assistant
will also be responsible for legal and other secondary
research.
Specific Duties
* Organize the Research Planning, Data Analysis, and Country-
Specific workshops in coordination with the Project Director;
* Provide technical expertise on the research design and M & E
system;
* Conduct the legal and enterprise characteristic research in
the US;
* Work in coordination with each counterpart NGO to assure
partner ownership in project and successful collaboration;
* Identify and engage other local and international NGOs to
participate in various phases of the project to bolster the
project s visibility, as well as regional NGO cooperation;
* Facilitate the various training services by securing short
term technical assistance and organizing the seminars.
Qualifications
MA (will consider a BA) in a related field, such as
international relations, economics, or a social science;
background or demonstrated interest in international women s
issues in the ECE/CIS regions; background in privatization
in the ECE/CIS; 2-3 years of successful project experience
with an international organization; social science research
background; excellent organizational, writing, and public
speaking skills; resourcefulness and demonstrated ability to
operate successfully in a variety of cultures; regional
language ability and field experience. Able to start
immediately.
