Subject: Job in American environmental history

The following announcement appeared on H-Net this morning, 31 Aug 1998.

American Environmental History.  The Department of History at the
University of Washington invites applications for a position in American
environmental history.  The appointment will be at the level of
tenure-track assistant professor, beginning September 1999.  Applicants
should have the Ph.D. degree or be in the final stages of their Ph.D.
program, and will be expected to participate in undergraduate and graduate
teaching and independent research, and to work closely with the
University's interdisciplinary Program on the Environment.  Candidates
will be expected to teach an upper level survey course on American
environmental history, as well as undergraduate and graduate classes in
their areas of scholarly specialization.  Applications, including c.v., a
statement of research and teaching interests, and three letters of
recommendation, should be sent to Professor John Findlay, Search Committee
Chair, Dept. of History, Box 353560, University of Washington, Seattle,
WA, 98195-3560.  Priority will be given to applications received before
November 1, 1998.  The University of Washington is building a culturally
