Subject: Family size and religion
I received a message which stated:
>Well the reason why I said that is that I have been reading up on EcoFem
>and the founder of the term believed that a person's religion should not
>determine whether or not they follow ecofeminism.
As this is relevant to the discussion on the present topic, I have posted my
thoughts on the subject to the list.
++ I wonder if the founder of EcoFem took into account the papal dogma on
population. This dogma is at cross purposes with Eco Feminism. There is no
point trying to save small patches of the environment in isolation if the
Earth is being overpopulated into oblivion by religions that bully women into
submission and threaten them with hell or whatever for non-compliance.
The fact of the matter is that over-population is the most significant
threat to Planet Earth. Therefore the there is an urgency for population
control.
Where has this been addressed by the Pope (the head of one of the most
influential religions in the world that encourages proliferation of the human
herd). I have not called Angela names. Someone else called her a bigot and
perhaps the term is correct in this case.
PS: It is a double disadvantage for poor women who are (1)told they must not
use contraception and (2)told that abortions are evil . This places women in
a terrible position of the possiblity of a pregnancy nearly every time they
have sex. This is a totally unacceptable scenario for women. Educating men
and women will not solve this problem. Men and women in many countries will
always participate in sex (they are human and sex is a human bodily
function) and unplanned pregnancies happen among educated persons as well as
poor people who lack education. In many cases sex is one of the only
pleasures a poor person can afford (money wise). From sex, people experience
pleasure and closeness
that is part of life. To deny sex and its consequences as a healthy part of
life is an obsolete approach.
