FYI... Stefanie Rixecker ECOFEM Coordinator ------- Forwarded Message Follows ------- Call For Papers: "History Across the Disciplines": the Atlantic Graduate Student History Conference at Dalhousie University On March 20-21, 1999, history graduate students at Dalhousie University (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) will host a conference for graduate students in history and other humanities disciplines. We are calling for papers on any historical topic, under the general title of "History Across the Disciplines." In particular, we are seeking papers which bear in some manner on one or more of the following themes: - interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to history, and historical approaches in the humanities: what can history learn from other disciplines and vice versa? - new or experimental methodologies and the future of history: what will the past look like in the 21st century? - style, narrative, and historical writing: what are the limits of "history," and what are the benefits and disadvantages of non-traditional modes of analysis and argumentation? There are no restrictions on geographical or chronological focus. We encourage participants to reflect on how the conference themes are illuminated by their own graduate research and writing, and thus on how history will be defined in the next generation. We hope that this process will be interactive, stimulating, productive, and fun. Submissions should be received by January 15, 1999. We welcome proposals for individual 20-minute papers, and especially for complete three-paper panels. In both cases, participants will be notified by mid-February. Please send abstracts (300 words) and personal contact information to: Sara Butler Graduate Student History Conference Department of History Dalhousie University Halifax, Nova Scotia B3H 3J5 or by email (unformatted text preferred) to: Brian Shipley <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ************************************ Dr. Stefanie S.
