Actually, I think that terms like "god" and "goddess" are linguistic
and cognitive lenses through which we try to apprehend an
immanent reality so vast, complex and ineffable that it cannot be
grasped in human terms; the ideas that it is conscious and
purposive are themselves anthromorphizations, or human traits that
we have projected onto our deity-concepts. (Ludwig Feuerbach
said that if we were birds, that God would be a big bird!) I also see
the cluster of traits associated with the deity-as-male perspective to
have been destructive of both the planet and the people, and the
deity-as-female perspective as a healing corrective, as I see the
idea of deity/heaven/hell-as-transcendent as one which devalues
and profanes the earth and our present lives, and the idea of deity-
heaven/hell-as-immanent(here-now) to be one which restores value
and sanctity/sacredness to ourselves and our shared home. Joe
