What if they ask you, "Who the #*@%! is He?" You'd have no
better answer than the goddess worshippers. In fact, you'd have the
same answer, with just a gender change. As to your "get real"
statement, that is exactly my answer when someone insists that for
my post-death salvation (!?), I must believe in and love a discarnate,
yet somehow male entity who befleshed his progeny by committing
astral adultery with the wife of a middle eastern peasant! Joe

There are no better reasons for deity to be one than there are for
deity to be many, or even not to be at all. To turn your question
around, why were all the different gods and goddesses created? To
provide simplistic mantras we may mindlessly repeat rather than
admit that some questions are unanswerable (what is this place I
find myself? why is there something rather than nothing, and why
THIS particular something?), some answers are individual (what is
the purpose of life?), and some answers are unpleasant (what
happens to me when I die?). The Goddess gives Her followers
exactly what God gives his, minus the overweening urge to convert
and dominate, and plus the acceptance of diversity and cooperation
between different people with compatible goals. Joe
