The Faculty of Environmental Studies at York University in Toronto invites
applications for a tenure stream position in the area of Environmental
Thought, Natural Histories and Cultural Narratives. We welcome
applications from a wide range of disciplines and practices. Competence
in oral/literary narration and/or natural history, and/or cultural studies
are also desirable. The appointment, effective July 1, 1999, will be at
the Assistant Professor level.
The Faculty of Environmental Studies offers interdisciplinary programs
leading to the degrees of Bachelor in Environmental Studies (BES), Master
in Environmental Studies (MES), and a Doctor of Philosophy in
Environmental Studies (PhD).
The Faculty was created in 1968 to meet the demand for new and more
appropriate responses to environmental problems and issues. FES offers
students the opportunity to develop individualized programs, build on past
experiences, and explore ideas from a variety of perspectives. The
Faculty aims to provide diverse educational experiences, in which students
have opportunities to acquire the knowledge and develop the skills they
need to act in creative and innovative ways in an ever changing world.
The Faculty expects applicants to demonstrate competence in and enthusiasm
for teaching and advising students, and a commitment to interdisciplinary
research, teaching, and collaboration. Applicants are expected to have a
strong or promising record of communicating their work, and should hold a
PhD degree or have equivalent academic or professional experience.
Applicants should submit a letter discussing their understanding of and
experience in Environmental Thought, Natural Histories and Cultural
Narratives, and their qualifications and research and teaching interests.
