Subject: Call for Papers
The Society for the Study of Women Philosophers invites proposals for papers or
discussions at our 1999 sessions to be held at the Eastern Div. Meetings of the
American Philosophical Association in Boston, Dec. 27-30, 1999.
Presentations may be on philosophical ideas in the work of women from any of the
world's traditions and on the following topics:
* Any aspect of the thought of a woman philosopher
* Discovery of work by previously unrecognized women thinkers
* Philosophical ideas in women poets, novelists, dramatists, etc.
* Reflections on how we decide what counts as "philosophy" in the work of women;
how the form of expression (diaries, novels, etc.) relates to the philosophical insight
* Reflections on how the education of women philosophers may differ from that of
their male counterparts
* How a woman philosopher has defined what it means to be a woman and/or a
philosopher
*Reflections on experiences teaching the work of women philosophers

DEADLINE APRIL 15, 1999
Presentations should be timed for 30 minutes...ordinarily this means a maximum paper
length of 15 pages, double-spaced. Proposals will be reviewed anonymously by the SSWP
board. Notification of acceptance will be made by early summer 1999.
