Girl sues to wear witch symbol

DETROIT (AP) - A 17-year-old honor student who calls herself a witch sued
her suburban high school Tuesday, saying its ban on wearing a five-pointed
star violates her right to practice her Wiccan religion. Lincoln Park High
School banned the pentagram in October along with white power, gang and
Satanic symbols. Since then, Crystal Seifferly has worn her pentagram under
her clothing. The Michigan American Civil Liberties Union sued in federal
court on her behalf, seeking a temporary order barring enforcement of the
ban while a judge considers the case. The ACLU says the policy violates the
First Amendment's guarantees of free speech and religious freedom. See full

Paramedic puts dolphin in ambulance

BUNNELL, Fla. (AP) - A paramedic was suspended for two shifts after he used
an ambulance to take a beached dolphin to a holding tank. County officials
said Roy Longo, a 10-year veteran, violated county policy by transporting
an animal in an ambulance. The dolphin washed ashore last week, and Longo
had taken it to a 1,000-gallon water tank at a nearby fire station until
officials from Sea World could treat the animal. "I violated the policy and
I understand that I have to be disciplined," Longo said. He said the
alternative to using the ambulance was more dangerous - placing the dolphin
in a basket-like stretcher atop a fire engine with a firefighter atop the
engine holding the animal. See full story
