Greeting!

I would like to introduce myself, and then go on to ask a rather large
favor of the list members.

First, my name is Hope Walker.  I am currently pitching a book proposal re;
Dr. Dian Fossey. I recently finished my contract as the Senior Researcher
on the television documentary (National Geographic and Channel 4 -UK-)
which attempted to touch upon her life. It was difficult, to say the
least, to try to fit in such an amazing life in 50-minutes. I was also
Senior Researcher on at least three other natural history television
documentaries with Animal Planet, The Beeb, Discovery Channel, and National
Geographic. Most of these films relate to primates in one way or another.

For at least fifteen years now I have been deeply interested in Dr.
Fossey's life and work. I've also been writing magazine and web articles
about primate conservation for a few years, so I decided to weave both
interests together.

Now, to why I am asking for help.

I believe that there is a strong connection between exploration, feminism
and current science research paradigm, especially in wildlife. I have read
Primate Visions (Donna Haraway) - in case anyone brings that particular
book up.

What I am hoping for would be a dialogue with list members which could help
me fill in/up some, what I believe to be, major gaps in my knowledge base
about eco-feminism. I am hoping to write the Introduction of the book on
this topic, and with your help I just might do it justice.

I have attached some questions below which should help to answer some of my
questions. I realize they may seem like simple questions, but I honestly
don't have the space to dive deep into the philosophy. I am hoping to give
it a fair overview, and tie it carefully into Dian's own work (although she
hated the thought of being in any way tied to feminism - ironically enough.)

Some of you are probably on extremely tight schedules and would probably
like to know a time frame for response. Unfortunately, I do need to get
this Introduction completed sooner rather than later. It is likely that
the Introduction will go through many re-writes, but I do need to get
something accomplished soonish. I just want to be sure that I have a fair
and honest interpretation of eco-feminism before I begin.

Anything you can do to help with these questions would be fantastic. If
you would like to share your views on eco-feminism and exploration in any
other way, please feel free.

By the way, I have been trying to reach Donna Haraway at her e-mail address
as UC Santa Cruz, without success. If anyone has any other suggestions on
how to contact her, they would be welcome.

Again, thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

With warm regards,
Hope Walker

1. What differences do you see in today's exploration/research into Africa
(culture, wildlife, etc) verses what, say, Mary Akeley went through when
she crossed Africa.

2. How exactly would you define Eco-Feminism?

3. Who would you say are the founders of the philosophy?

4. What is the difference between Eco-feminism and Feminism?

5. What role (if any) do men have in Eco-Feminism?

6. Can you suggest one or two books which would be beneficial to anyone
interested in eco-feminism?
