I thought you would be interested in the attached email I received, in
particular #3 and #4 on the list. I know you are not in the U.S., but
thought you could forward the info to any feminist friends you may have
in the states. Actually, all the alerts are important, but #4 deals
with the fact that females are often the target of gun violence by
males, and I know you are an outspoken supporter of female rights.

5. Attend the National Center for Women & Policing Conference

1. On March 29, 1999, the Hollywood community will gather to help
publicize the Taliban's brutal human rights abuses and send a
message of hope to the women and girls of Afghanistan.

Celebrities including Gillian Anderson, Kathy Bates, Brandy,
Delta Burke, Natalie Cole, Claire Danes, Geena Davis, Salma Hayek,
Anjelica Huston, Christine Lahti, Lily Tomlin, Alfre Woodard and
numerous others will attend this important event. Find ticket
information and sponsorship opportunities online at

women's plight by wearing a "Symbol of Remembrance" (see
http://www.feminist.org/afghan/remembrance.html ).

2. In honor of Women's History Month, the Feminist Majority
Foundation has created a special Web feature celebrating women's
unique contributions to history. Find a new quiz, a "quote of
the day," links to other women's and history organizations, a list
of recommended readings, our "Teach Women's History" guide, and
more at http://www.feminist.org/other/wh_menu99.html !

3. Last month, Italy's Supreme Court of Appeal judges overturned
a rape conviction based on their belief that a woman's jeans cannot
be removed without her consent. Since the woman who testified that
she had been raped was wearing jeans on the day of her alleged
attack, the judges ruled that she must have lied about the rape.
Go to http://www.feminist.org/action/action105.html to find out how
you can participate in the "Jeans for Justice" project.

4. Feminist folk singer/songwriter Cheryl Wheeler and her record
label, Rounder Records, are under attack by pro-gun forces because
of a powerful song that Wheeler wrote in response to last year's
deadly shooting at a Jonesboro, AR school. The two male students
charged in the shooting killed 4 girls and a female teacher, and
injured another female teacher, 8 girls, and a boy. Go to
http://www.feminist.org/action/action106.html to find out how you
can support Cheryl Wheeler and help stop gun violence!

5. If you haven't already registered for the National Center for
