Hayley - I will ask you this question as well, given your recent
post...Since when is the discussion of patriarchy and patriarchal behavior
not allowed? On a feminist list-serve for that matter?
The Journaling issue is less of an issue for me right now than the overall
patriarchal behavior which I have seen exhibited on this list - if you do
not share this perspective, that is truely your perogative, however, the
fact that others have this opinion is equally valid - what you see as
"male-bashing", I, and apparently others, see as a manifestation of
patriarchy and as attempts at dominating the course of dialogue, not to
mention the content of that dialogue. It is inappropriate for you to
apologize on anyone's behalf - we are all entitled to our opionions, even
if they happen to diverge from those expressed by you, chris and joe.
If it is difficult for you to appreciate, or at least tolerate, divergent
stances and opionions, then perhaps you, chris and joe should set up your
own list. My understanding is that this list has been set up to share
ideas....I would like to think that this implies a non-hierarchical
structure which facilitates dialogue....I am of the opinion that this has
been thwarted by patriarchal attempts to dominate this dialogue. Again,
what you see as "male-bashing" others apparently see quite differently. In
fact, I have come to the point that I am simply fed up by the behavior
exhibited by chris and joe. But because I do feel that there are many
remarkable people on this list whom I would like to converse with, I would
rather simply no longer engage in dialogue with either chris or joe, as
opposed to simply 'unsubscribing' to the list.
This is my choice and it is a valid one - no need to apologize on my behalf.
