Women's groups lobby Congress

WASHINGTON (AP) - Quality, affordable child care. Fair pay. Social Security
reform. Insurance coverage for contraception. An end to violence against
women. These issues, and more, drew hundreds of women from 35 states to the
first Women's Equality Summit, which ended Tuesday with a lobbying blitz on
Capitol Hill. "What we have to say to the members of Congress is, either
you listen or you are not going to be here again," Gloria Steinem, the

Update: More salmon species now protected

SEATTLE (AP) - Nine species of salmon - including one that swims in the
heart of bustling Puget Sound - came under federal protection Tuesday in a
move that promises to have economic reverberations across the region. The
genetically distinct species were listed as endangered or threatened under
the federal Endangered Species Act. "One of our greatest challenges is to
restore the great salmon runs of the Pacific Northwest to sustainable
levels," said Terry Garcia, assistant secretary of commerce. "Healthy
salmon resources are essential to the economic health and prosperity of the
