ACTION ALERT! ACTION ALERT! ACTION ALERT! ACTION ALERT!

Geneva, 4 march 1995

The mainstreaming of women's human rights into UN human rights
mechanisms is threatened. The Commission on Human Rights last
evening did not vote on two resolutions regarding women's human
rights because some last minute objection to support mainstreaming
developed.

Women's groups and their friends must indicate strong support of
these resolutions in their present form to their governments as
soon as possible. The vote may take place as early as Tuesday, 7
March, the day before International Women's Day.

The resolutions are:

E/CN.4/1995/L.70, Questions of integrating the human rights of
women into the human rights mechanisms of the United Nations;

E/CN.4/1995/L.69, The elimination of violence against women.

Failure to pass these resolutions in their present form will have
serious repercussions on the success of the Beijing Conference.

Your mobilization will make a difference at this crucial moment.

Geneva International Alliance of Women, Rep. in Geneva
International Council of Jewish Women, Past Pres., Rep. in Geneva
