Hi everyone! I'm very new to this list, and pretty ignorant to boot, so
please forgive aggravating questions. :) Anyways, I was wondering if
anyone on this list knows about the Green Party USA. I've read about the
German Greens, and they seem to really have some good ideas. Is the
US party comparable or even alive at all?

I think this might have been posted to the list last fall, but since the
question was raised about the status of the US Green Party, here are the:
1994 PRELIMINARTY U.S. GREEN PARTY RESULTS
Note the addresses at the conclusion. -- Joel

Green Parties in the U.S. made history in 1994 by recieving the highest
vote counts ever.
* Four Green candidates received more than 100,000 votes, with Margaret
Garcia, Green Party of California candidate for Secretary of State
recieving 289,302 -- a record number of votes for a U.S. Green ever.
The previous record was held by Linda Martin, Green Party of Hawaii
candidate for US Senate in 1992 with 50,000 votes, which was 13% of
the total.
* Five Green candidates for statewide office recieved more than 10%
of the vote, with Lorenzo Garcia, New Mexico Green Party Candidate
for State Treasurer receiving 33% of the New Mexico vote -- the
highest percentage of a statewide vote for a Green ever.
* Also receiving more than 10% of the vote was New Mexico's candidates
for Governor and Lt. Governor, Roberto Mondragon and Steven Schmidt
who both recieved 11%, New Mexico's candidate for Commissioner of
Public Lands who received 12%. The Green Party of Alaska also made
history with Joni Whitmore bringing in 10% of the vote for U.S.
Congress which is a statewide office in Alaska.
* Receiving between 5 and 10% of the vote for a statewide office was
the Green Party Maine's candidate for Governor, Jonathon Carter,
with 6.3% and the Green Party of Rhode Island's candidate for Lt.
Governor, Jeff Johnson with 6.1% The previous record for percentage
of votes on a statewide race was also Linda Martin, U.S. Senate
Candidate in Hawaii in 1992 and Jim Sykes, the Green Party of Alaska's
Candidate for Governor in 1990 where he got 3.3% of the vote and
established the Green Party of Alaska as the first officially
recognized Green Party in the U.S.
* The Green Party of Maine is now an officially recognized Green
Party after recieving more than 5% of the vote for a gubernatorial
candidate. The Green Parties of Alaska and California have ensured
continued ballot status through their vote percentages for a
statewide office.
* The majority of the Green Party Candidates in Alaska, Hawaii, New
Mexico and Missouri recieved over 10% of the vote. Nearly half
of the New Mexico Green Party candidates received more than 32%
of the vote and a third of the Hawaii Green Party Candidates
received more than 38% of the vote -- with one winner recieving
60%.
* In summary, 8 Greens were elected, all 5 incumbents reporting so
far have been reelected, and Greens have elected 3 new City Council
seats.
