Canadian Woman's Studies /les cahiers de la femme Fall 1995 issue is

committed to an exploration of the lives of women in Central and
Eastern Europe in a Global context. The changes of 1989 had a
profound impact on women's lives in Central and Eastern Europe. On the
one hand the relaxation of the one-party system favoured the emergence
of new autonomous women's organizations. On the other hand benefits
that were taken for granted by women during socialism are no longer
guaranteed under the new regimes.The issue will focus on women's
experiences in the former Soviet Union, former Czechoslovakia, former
Yugoslavia, the former GDR, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Albania, and
Bulgaria since 1989. We are seeking articles from feminist scholars
and activists from Eastern Europe as well as from western contributors
who do research on women's issues in Eastern Europe or have extensive
co-operative contact with East European women's groups. Authors who
have not previously published in western publications are encouraged
to submit manuscripts. Articles might address the following themes:

- Evaluations of western scholarship on East European women
- Impact of migration on East European women
- International sextrade
- Lesbians' rights and sexual politics in Eastern Europe
- Networks between women in the west and in Eastern Europe
- Impactof changing values on women
(eg ideas about work, family politics, femininity market economy)
- Politics of identity, nationalism and citizenship
- Refugee and minority women
- Youth movements and gender
- Changes in cultural production since 1989
- Your ideas for additional topics are welcome
Invited are essays, research reports, true stories, poetry, cartoons,
drawings and other artwork which addresses the experiences of women
living in Central Eastern Europe.

Articles should be typed and double-spaced, 7-12 pages long (15000-
2000 words), with notes following the articles. A short (50 words)
abstract of the article and a brief biographical note muast accompany
each submission. If your manuscript haS been word-processed, please
include a computer-disk copy and indicate the program used. The disk
will be returned to you. We give preference to previously unpublished
material. If possible, please submit photographs or graphics to
illustrate your work.
Write to us as soon as possible indicating your intention to submit an
article.
