Arlene,

Wow - that is such a shame! It is really demoralizing
how being eco-conscious is often such a priviledge of
the affluent. The man who gave the slideshow I
attended talked about building materials that are
relatively inexpensive (straw, concrete chunks from
torn down buildings, etc) but he didn't talk about the
fact that to do your own building requires the
wherewithall to be working part time and still
supporting yourself. Saw lots of slides of lots of
white suburbans doing the building. Sigh. For those
of us who rent our spaces because we can't qualify for
a loan or can't pull together a deposit, of just need
to be renting now, it is not so easy to make those
kind of changes.

I guess I feel that in my life where there's a will
there's a way but I wish that the default, easy way
wasn't so toxic. Ah well, I guess we all wish that, I
guess that is why we are here, trying to learn from
each other and encourage each other. Good luck,
Arlene, and everyone else out there doing good.

fondly,
Heather
