Hi, Heather-- thanks for your comments.  I agree that the description of
"Jane's" sexuality is less than adequate, but I wasn't offended by the
sexual relationship she has with Sloan-- is that what you meant? 

I guess ultimately I was so happy to have a novel that was really well-done
in dealing with the industrial meat issues that I felt I could overlook the
sexuality. I would love to see more "realistic" fictional explorations of
sex from the woman's perspective, but I didn't consider it a fatal flaw of
the novel that it didn't have that.  I also didn't think the description of
Akiko's bulemia was realistic.  But it got the point across.  I may try to
teach the book next time I teeach my sex roles course.  --E.
