Group will kill nuisance deer

SPRINGFIELD, Va. (AP) - Years ago, Tom Williamson enjoyed watching deer wander across his suburban Washington lawn. Then they multiplied and devoured his shrubs. "One morning I got up and counted 18 of them in my yard. If I had an apple I could have hit one of them," he said. Instead, Williamson called in the hit squad. Suburban Whitetail Management of Northern Virginia, a nonprofit organization that shoots deer for free, sent over a bow hunter. Dressed in camouflage, the hunter waited at dawn and again at dusk for deer to amble through the yard in search of food. One by one, the arrows took them out. With few predators and a diminishing amount of open space, deer are pushing into American suburbs in ever larger numbers. See full story
