Gartner Lee wishes to hire a Senior Remediation Engineer, a
(1) Environmental Approvals Specialist, (2) Waste Management

Canadian consulting firm based in Markham, Ontario. It
provides professional services in environmental planning,
Environmental Site Assessment and Remediation, and Waste

Remediation Engineer will carry out a wide variety of
assignments related to the investigation, remediation and
redevelopment of environmentally impaired properties. The
successful candidate will have a strong interest and an
excellent track record in business development and attracting
new clients; be a registered a Professional Engineer in Ontario;
have a post-graduate degree in engineering or earth sciences
from a recognised Canadian University or equivalent. The
person will have a strong theoretical understanding and a
minimum of 15 years of directly related hands-on experience
with a wide range of site remediation technologies for complex
soil and water contamination problems.
The Environmental Approvals Specialist will carry out various
assignments related to the environmental approvals associated
with the implementation or modification of a broad range of
waste management facilities including landfills, transfer stations,
organic waste treatment facilities, public drop-off centres,
storage facilities, HHW facilities and incinerators. The successful
candidate will have a Bachelors and / or Masters degree in
engineering, science or planning from a recognised Canadian
University or equivalent; have five to eight years of related
waste management facility design, impact assessment and /
or planning and co-ordination experience; have a working knowledge
of current Ontario and Federal environmental legislation applicable
to waste management facilities; and have experience in project
co-ordination and / or management of a team supporting an approval
process.
The Waste Management Engineer will carry out various office
and field assignments related to the design, operation, and construction
of waste management facilities including landfill sites, transfer stations,
and integrated waste management facilities. The successful candidate
will have a B.A.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised
Canadian University or equivalent; be registered, or have the ability
to register as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario. The
person should have three to five years design and construction
administration experience in the Canadian consulting engineering
industry in a broad range of civil infrastructure projects. Total station
surveying and CADD skills are an asset; and have working knowledge of
current waste management legislation.
The Hydrogeologist / Hydrogeochemist will conduct monitoring
and assessment of waste management facilities. The successful
candidate will have a Masters Degree in Hydrogeology or
Hydrogeochemistry from a recognised Canadian University
or equivalent; have at least three to five years experience in
impact assessments for landfills, organic and inorganic
geochemistry, contaminant transport, investigation and
remediation of a wide range of subsurface contamination
problems; and a working knowledge of current environmental
legislation.
The Water Resources Engineer will undertake hydrologic and
hydraulic analyses for the preparation of environmental impact
studies, watershed studies, stormwater management plans. Duties
will also include assisting in the design and construction of stream
rehabilitation projects and stormwater management facilities. The
successful candidate will have a Bachelor and /or Masters degree
in Civil or Water Resources Engineering from a recognised Canadian
University or equivalent; have three to five years experience in
hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and the design of stream
rehabilitation and stormwater management works; and, have a working
knowledge of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process.
Geotechnical Engineering Technician / Technologist will provide
field support in the areas of drilling and test pit supervision, soil
sampling and logging, groundwater and surface water sampling
and surveying. The successful candidate will by a recent graduate
from a recognised Canadian College geotechnical or geological
program; have an enthusiasm for field work in all seasons; have a
willingness to acquire training; and a willingness to work in a
contract position with the potential for full-time employment.

CANADIAN COMMUNITY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

groups, labour social justice funds, and solidarity groups, based in
Nampula, Mozambique, wishes to hire an Executive Director. It
provides technical assistance and training to local organizations and
popular movements in Mozambique, working in areas including
providing clean drinking water, establishing proper village sewage
waste management, health promotion, human rights training, and
rural credit for women. COCAMO also manages an integrated mine
action program in two provinces in Mozambique on behalf of the
Canadian Auto Workers Social Justice fund and carries out advocacy
and development education work in Canada. It is currently looking
for an Executive Director to work in Canada. The E.D. will have overall

The Wetland Economics Program at Michigan State University (MSU) is seeking
qualified doctoral students and research assistants to provide Doctoral Fellowship.
The Wetlands Economics Program is particularly interested in candidates interested
in freshwater wetlands, ecosystem valuation, and legal and economic analysis of
natural resource policy. It is anticipated that successful candidates would enroll
as doctoral students in MSU's Department of Agricultural Economics and/or Department
of Resource Development. In addition to departmental funding possibilities, a USDA-
sponsored Water Sciences Fellowship is available to support a student's courses and
dissertation research. The Water Science Fellowship stipend is $22,000 per year for
three years plus non-resident tuition, where applicable. The successful Fellowship
candidate must 1) have a Masters degree; 2) be a citizen or permanent resident of

U.S. EPA WANTS TWO (2) ECONOMICS POSITIONS FILLED
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will fill up
to two permanent positions in the Innovative Strategies and
Economic Group (ISEG) of the Air Quality Strategies and
Standards Division, located in Durham, North Carolina. ISEG
produces cutting-edge economic analyses of air pollution
regulations, incorporating the latest methods and tools in
analyzing the costs, benefits, and distributive economic
consequences of new or revised air pollution regulations
and policies. They are seeking individuals with experience
and/or interest in the analysis of health and/or ecological
benefits of environmental regulations. Ideally, these individuals
would have experience conducting cost-benefit analysis using
complex environmental models, though this is not required.
As examples of the kind of analyses these individuals would
be working on, ISEG is currently developing new methods
for determining the value of a statistical life, and for valuing
reductions in materials damage, improvements in visibility,
reductions in nitrogen-related ecological impacts, and
increases in forest productivity. They are also developing
state of the art tools for benefits transfer in the context of
environmental regulations.
U.S. citizenship is required. Job duties include conducting
analyses of changes in ambient air quality; analyzing pollution
control measures; developing methods to estimate the benefits
of improved air quality; integrating the results of analyses with
related cost-effectiveness, economic impact, and benefit-cost studies;
