Subject: Faculty of Environmental Studies - York University

The Faculty of Environmental Studies at York University in Toronto
invites applications for the following two teaching positions.  The
appointments, effective July 1, 2001, will be at the Assistant
Professor level.

The Faculty of Environmental Studies offers interdisciplinary
programs leading to the degrees of Bachelor in Environmental
Studies, Master in Environmental Studies, and a Doctor of Philosophy
in Environmental Studies.  The Faculty was created in 1968 to meet
the demand for new and more appropriate responses to environmental
problems and issues, adopting a broad definition of environment
including natural, built, social and organizational.

ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING (tenure stream)
The successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate and
graduate courses in planning processes, planning theory,
environmental planning, and participation in planning.  S/he will do
research and advise students on a broad range of environmental
planning issues.  Environmental planning in FES suggests a critical
perspective, as well as skills and substantive knowledge in the
following areas: ecological processes; politics of regional and/or
international cultures and contexts; and sustainable community-based
planning practices.  The successful candidate must be a member of
O.P.P.I. or be willing and eligible to become a member. Professional
planning experience is an asset. The DEADLINE for receipt of

APPLIED ECOLOGY (two year contractually-limited appointment)
We are seeking an ecologist with expertise in the application of
ecological principles and concepts to societal problems such as
biodiversity conservation, resource management and global warming.
The successful candidate will have experience teaching applied
ecology to undergraduate students who are not science students. The
successful candidate is expected to teach several undergraduate and
graduate courses such as 'Introduction to Science for Environmental
Studies', 'Applied Environmental Sciences', and 'Ecology in
Environmental Studies'. The DEADLINE for receipt of applications is
January 22, 2001.

The Faculty expects applicants to demonstrate competence in and
enthusiasm for teaching and advising students, and a commitment to
interdisciplinary research, teaching, and collaboration.  Applicants
are expected to have a strong or promising scholarly record, and
should hold a PhD degree or have equivalent academic or professional
experience.

and experience in the relevant field, qualifications, research and
teaching interests, a CV and sample(s) of their work along with
