i've been working with a couple of Burmese journos this past week or so whoa re doing internships at 4zzz in Brisbane.
Thin zar (pron 'ying zarn') works with a groups called the Shan Women's Action Network. Thin zar is very shy, but she would like to get an article published in women's magazines, uni newspapers etc about a publication put out by her group: '"licence to rape" about the veritable plague of military rapes going on in Burma. it really needs to be publicised. Thin zar is working on a magazine article if anyone has any leads.
Thin zar will be at the Brisbane Social Forum, and although shes' reticent about talking, she will be getting some copies of "licence to rape" to give away, and newsletters to distribute. women are really doing it rough in Burma.
you can check out the SWAN site at :
http://www.shanwomen.org
you can also download a copy of "licence to rape" there. if people would like to make copies and distribute them that would be brilliant.
i am working with Thin zar to help set up a burma indymedia, because journos and activists even in thailand are being arrested and locked up.
i am also hoping to send Thin zart home with some technical gear, recording equipment etc, so any help there would be much appreciated.
love, kim brisbane
