It provides guidance on the design of best management=20 practices (BMPs) for the mitigation of the environmental impacts=20 to receiving waters associated with urban runoff. Water resources=20 engineers have designed small and large ponds for many years for=20 a wide range of applications, including farm ponds, recreational=20 ponds, water supply reservoirs, flood control reservoirs,=20 infiltration basins and multiple use reservoirs. This volume=20 provides design guidelines for a group of stormwater management=20 (SWM) BMPs broadly referred to as basins or ponds. The objectives=20 of this manual is to provide practical design guides that when=20 followed, result in SWM BMPs facilities that maximize pollutant=20 removal and flood control.=20 Download this technical document in PDF format. http://www.bossintl.com/products/download/item/Newsletter+Utilities+and+Doc= uments.html#0 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3) Power Utility - HyperCalc Plus ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HyperCalc Plus is a Windows based software developed at Utah State=20 University as part of a joint project involving Utah State=20 University, the Utah Department of Transportation, and the Federal=20 Highway Administration. It provides a convenient means for=20 converting between English and Metric (SI) units. There are 13=20 Contexts for common units. But=20 in 75 years the difference will be clear. Inside the northbound=20 bridge=92s concrete deck, builders used a prefabricated plastic grid=20 instead of steel. Engineers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison=20 who tested the fiber-reinforced polymer bridge expect it to last=20 at least twice as long as its steel counterpart because it resists=20 corrosion from the de-icing salt and water that seeps through=20 surface cracks in the concrete. In icy states, the durability is=20 worth the 35 percent higher cost. http://www.news.wisc.edu/11825.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 10) Nano-sponges for Toxic Metals ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Microscopic particles honeycombed with holes only nanometers wide=20 soon could help purify industrial runoff, coal plant smoke, crude=20 oil and drinking water of toxic metals, experts say. The particles,=20 made of glass or natural diatomaceous earth, are 5 millionths to=20 50 millionths of a meter wide and filled with holes a thousand=20 times smaller. The surfaces of these particles can bear a variety=20 of flavors or coatings that soak up specific toxic metals=97for=20 instance, sulfurous organic coatings attract mercury, while=20 coppery organic coatings bind to arsenic and radioactive metals=20 known as actinides. The particles' spongy nature gives them an=20 incredible 6,400 square feet to nearly 11,000 square feet of=20 surface area per gram of material with which to draw in toxins. http://www.nanotechnology.com/news/?id=3D7561 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 11) New Microscope Allows Scientists to Track a Functioning Protein with At= omic-level Precision ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Stanford University research team has designed the first=20 microscope sensitive enough to track the real-time motion of a=20 single protein down to the level of its individual atoms. Writing=20 in the November 13, 2005 online issue of the journal Nature, the=20 Stanford researchers explain how the new instrument allowed them=20 to settle long-standing scientific debates about the way genes=20 are copied from DNA=97a biochemical process that's essential to life.=20 http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2005-11/su-nma110805.php ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 12) Engineering Software CD-ROM ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Request a CD-ROM containing our products.
