Colleagues, We would like to call your attention to an AGU Joint Assembly session focusing on nutrient fate and transport through watersheds over periods of high discharge. Please consider submitting a presentation to this interdisciplinary session.
This years Joint Assembly meeting is in Baltimore, MD from 23-26 May. There are many exciting sessions, which can be previewed at http://www.agu.org/meetings/ja06/. All abstracts are due 1 March, 2006 and can be submitted directly through the AGU website. Cheers, Durelle Scott and Greg Noe ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ B08: Nutrient Biogeochemistry in Fluvial Environments During High Discharge Events Description: The majority of a watersheds annual nutrient export occurs during periods of high flow. However, much of the focus on biogeochemical processes within river networks is focused on baseflow conditions during the summer. This session is intended to turn the equation around, and ask the following questions: (1) What is the biogeochemical reactivity of material transported during these periods? (2) Where and how much of this material is altered during hydrologic transport? (3) How does the reactivity of in-stream material loads change during transport? (4) What are the implications for downstream receiving bodies of water? This session will include a broad range of interdisciplinary scientists, including biogeochemists, hydrologists, ecologists, and geomorphologists in order to improve understanding of nutrient fluxes during high fluvial discharge.
