WildMetro is a small not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting 
nature in metropolitan regions. We conduct research on urban ecology in 
and around New York, educate children and adults about the importance of 
urban wildlife and urban natural areas, and advocate for a sensible 
balance of development and nature protection in urban regions. 

The Research Director will direct, manage, and coordinate all research 
programs for WildMetro. Specific responsibilities include collecting and 
analyzing data, designing research protocols, securing grants, writing and 
editing reports, obtaining permits, coordinating work schedules for field 
workers and volunteers, and occasionally assisting with education and 
advocacy programs. One of the Research Director’s primary duties will be 
to conduct an on-going project focusing on small mammal communities in the 
NYC region. The Research Director will also have a large amount of 
flexibility in developing new research projects for WildMetro. The 
Research Director works very closely with the Research Coordinator on all 
research-related projects. This position is an ideal opportunity for 
someone to gain management and animal handling experience; successful 
applicants will be assured contact with local environmental professionals 
and opportunities to write and communicate grant, educational, and 
presentation materials. 

Requirements include a graduate degree in Ecology, Biology, or a related 
field; prior field research experience; confidence in communicating 
research findings to scientific and non-scientific audiences; familiarity 
with a variety of statistical tests; the ability to work well 
independently and with people of diverse backgrounds; and the ability to 
learn and teach a variety of research and field techniques. This is a full-
time position based on an intern pay scale; exact salary amount will be 
commensurate with credentials and experience.
