What has been noteworthy in this extremely enlightening thread is:
It appears that 'invasiveness' is treated as a chararcteristic of the species
that is introduced and becomes established possibly at the expense of existing,
'native' species.

I would think that the 'receptiveness' of the system would be as important as
the overtaking ability of the alien spp. in any invasion. Thus the properties
of the ecosystem probably contributory.

Lastly, do alien species become 'invasive' species in climax communities, or
do they become so in deranged or degraded ecosystems?
How much perturbation, be it acute, like an episotic event (hurricane, etc.)
or chronic, including anthropogenic, does it take to facilitate aline to
invasive transition?
