The weltschmerz I feel for (the study of, to be regrettably but of = necessity, redundant) ecology and science or any sort of intellectual = integrity in general is debilitating. I yearn for growing evidence that = teachers need not be diverted from the essential task of awakening and = inspiring and encouraging and nurturing the intellect (both that of = their students and their own), and that substance/ability/performance is = seen as more important labels and other elements of IMAGE. I yearn also = for evidence that authoritarianism, the apparent root of the phenomenon, = is likewise on the decline. =20
