EDUCATION DIRECTOR COSTA RICA Organization for Tropical Studies The Education Director is responsible for the=20 overall leadership and direction of all OTS=20 education programs including undergraduate,=20 graduate, and professional courses in Costa Rica.=20 This position is a supervisory position and the=20 incumbent is responsible for a deputy director,=20 support staff, and course instructors. This=20 position reports to the Vice President for Costa=20 Rican Academic Programs and is located in the San Jos=E9 office in Costa= Rica.
The incumbent is responsible for the planning and=20 implementation of all existing and new education=20 programs in Costa Rica, ensuring that all=20 programs are carried out with the highest=20 academic standards, that the highest safety=20 standards are achieved, and the courses meet the needs of the students. The Education Director will be responsible for: - setting the tone and overall content of the education program - recruiting and hiring program faculty and staff - development of course teams for the=20 planning and implementation of courses - management of education staff in Costa Rica - coordination of admissions processes,=20 including review of medical records - coordination of program logistics=20 including transportation, lodging, equipment, and=20 computer hardware and software - development and oversight of education program budgets - appropriate risk management for all Costa Rican education= programs - reporting and record-keeping of student and program information - developing fund-raising initiatives=20 with other OTS staff to support education programs in Costa Rica - ensure that education staff=20 coordinates effectively with other OTS departments - supervision and training faculty and staff - evaluation of education staff - assessment of courses - serving as liaison to the OTS Education Committee - ensuring that course logistics are=20 properly coordinated and that all equipment and=20 other needs are attended to by the appropriate staff The Education Director will work closely with the=20 Vice President for Global Programs and=20 Partnerships in the development assessment=20 standards and other expectations for each course=20 offerings. To ensure that these standards are=20 being met, the incumbent will spend appropriate=20 time in the field reviewing courses against established standards. The Education Director will create course teams=20 to plan each aspect of courses. The Education=20 Director must also be a team player and feel=20 comfortable in an environment of co-equal program=20 directors. The incumbent will be knowledgeable of=20 science and education including the appropriate=20 pedagogy in each field and be called upon to=20 recruit expert course instructors and lecturers as appropriate. Positions are based in San Jos=E9, Costa Rica.=20 In-country and international travel is required.=20 Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and have at least=20 five years of relevant education and experience.=20 Strong Spanish skills and the ability to work=20 comfortably in multiple cultural settings are=20 required.
