While living in Southeast Asia, I came across another indigenous practice for dealing with large cats. The rural people in some parts of Malaysia and Indonesia wear masks on the back of their heads. These backward-facing masks were said to discourage attacks by tigers, leopards, etc.
It always struck me as a sensible imitation of the
strategy we see widely in butterflies, for example.
