POSITION PURPOSE The position works directly with users, either independently or in a lead role, to analyze, design, develop, test, implement, and maintain a wide range of highly complex, multi-department computer applications. The position directly supports the SunGard Higher Education Banner suite of software (including Registration, Admissions, Financial Aid, Finance, Accounts Receivable and Advancement) and several custom integrations between Banner and other applications. NATURE AND SCOPE The Systems Analyst/Programmer Administrative Computing position is an at will appointment, exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and state civil service laws. This position reports to the Manager of Administrative Computing. S/he will typically be responsible for independently determining customer needs in areas of primary support; prioritizing and coordinating those efforts with the Administrative Computing team to solve complex system analysis and development problems. Other projects may be initiated from customer requests or internal needs by the Administrative Computing Manager. COMPENSATION Experience and training may be considered in salary placement. Salary range is $4,609 to $4,885 per month of full-time work. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Two years system/product management experience with the development, maintenance and enhancement of an enterprise level application such as the SunGard Higher Education Banner suite within a server based computing environment. Examples of system/product management can include comprehensive system analysis, programming, database support and/or design. A Bachelors degree in computer science, computer information systems, business administration, mathematics or related science field may substitute for one year of required experience. Conducting analysis and/or programming for an enterprise level application such as SunGard Higher Education Banner suite may substitute for one year of experience. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Provide primary computer support for administrative applications including: Accounts Receivable system Datamart First point of technical support contact for the team Testing Maintaining contact with Banner List Serves and Action Web resources for problem solving. All systems are interfaced either online or in batch mode and require coordination with end-user and technical people from other offices. 2. Provide back up support for administrative applications including: Banner Finance system PPMS (Payroll System) Alumni/Development Student support systems (Registration, Admissions, Financial Aid) Other applications as assigned. 3. Provide technical expertise for the Admin Computing team in the areas of: SQL, PL/SQL and database development Web application development (JAVA, HTML, PHP, or others, including development environments) MS Access development Word/Excel Documentation 4. Meet regularly and as required with assigned administrative users at the supervisor and director level to determine user requirements. This includes analyzing needs/problems and giving advice to administrative users as to the technical feasibility of solutions. 5. Collaborate with other system analysts, users, and managers to prioritize computing resources. Provide accurate estimates of planned work and collaborate with the team on meeting deadlines. 6. Develop technical specifications for the development of new computer systems and the modifications of existing computer systems. This includes the development of specifications for databases, screens, reports, interfaces and batch processes. 7. Design, code, test, implement, and maintain new computer systems and modifications of existing computer systems. 8. Prepare technical documentation for computer programs, computer systems, computer operations, and users. Present designs and code in Administrative Computing team walkthrough sessions. 9. Monitor and respond to problems with computer systems in production. 10. Consult with system managers in troubleshooting hardware and software problems. 11. Follow established coding standards and processes in place for the team and contribute to their refinement. 12. Submit a monthly status report to the Admin Computing Manager summarizing completed work, plans for the next month, and any open issues. ADDITIONAL DUTIES Prepare operational documentation for computer programs, computer systems, computer operations, and users. Train end-users in the use of computer systems and applications as needed. Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to provide expert consultation and specialized analysis, troubleshooting and problem resolution for major organization-wide, high risk/high impact or mission critical applications (like SungardHE Banner suite), projects, databases, supported products or operational problems. Ability to apply relational database concepts, design, develop, maintain, program, test, assure quality and develop applications, queries, views, tables, packages, procedures and functions using SQL and PL/SQL or equivalent database development tools in an Oracle database. Knowledge of C, C++, C#, Java, PHP, Visual Basic, or equivalent programming language(s) AND respective frameworks and integrated development environments used to develop multi-tiered, distributed applications. Knowledge of Unix, Linux and Microsoft operating system and utilities (or equivalent). Strong organizational and customer service skills. Excellent written and interpersonal communications skills. Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a culturally diverse community with other Systems Analyst / Programmers, users, and managers. Ability to provide full life-cycle systems support of administrative applications including the use of version control and bug tracking software. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES continued Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office products (Word, Excel, Access) or equivalent in a multi-user environment. Knowledge of web resources and other tools used to support systems development, customer support and professional development. Ability to complete assigned tasks independently. Ability and desire to learn new programming language(s), integrated development environments, methodologies and technology.
