David Bryant posted earlier that photosynthesis is only about 1% =
efficient in converting sunlight to biomass, and that solar =
photovoltaics are 10-15 times more efficient at energy capture.

If this is true, then why are we even considering capturing energy for =
fuel use via photosynthesis rather than focusing on photovoltaics?

Can anyone expand on these numbers? Do photovoltaics indeed capture =
10-15% of sunlight energy as electricity? And what energy losses would =
be entailed in converting the energy to, say, Hydrogen?

This is an incredibly important discussion, and I would hope that some =
consensus might eventually emerge here.
