David Bryant posted earlier that photosynthesis is only about 1% = efficient in converting sunlight to biomass, and that solar = photovoltaics are 10-15 times more efficient at energy capture.
If this is true, then why are we even considering capturing energy for = fuel use via photosynthesis rather than focusing on photovoltaics? Can anyone expand on these numbers? Do photovoltaics indeed capture = 10-15% of sunlight energy as electricity? And what energy losses would = be entailed in converting the energy to, say, Hydrogen? This is an incredibly important discussion, and I would hope that some = consensus might eventually emerge here. Dave Whitacre
