Conservation Planning Botanist The Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program in Westborough, Massachusetts, is recruiting for a Conservation Planning Botanist. The incumbent will: help assess and prioritize threats to rare plant populations and coordinate mitigation efforts; provide specific management recommendations to landowners; write or update rare plant fact sheets; write conservation plans for MassachusettsÂ’ rare plant species; compile and prioritize a list of implementation actions from existing conservation plans; and coordinate or perform implementation actions from the conservation plans. Preferred qualifications include: graduate degree in botany, plant ecology, conservation biology, or related field; familiarity and field experience with the rare flora of Massachusetts; experience with Natural Heritage methodology; experience with computers, including GIS; ability to interpret topographic maps and aerial photographs; ability to work both collaboratively and independently; accuracy and attention to detail; excellent writing skills; and ability to meet tight deadlines. This short-term position is through the Natural Heritage support services contract that the Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences has with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The position runs until June 30, 2007, with the strong possibility of further employment.
