Job Description

This position is responsible for the manipulation of digital geographic data
in support of map production tasks. Responsibilities include editing data in
a geographic information systems (GIS) environment, manipulation and merging
of digital files, implementation of project-specific cartographic
specifications, map layout and design, and creation of output files ready
for printing. The position requires close collaboration with ISP Monitoring
Program and Control Program staff (field staff and managers). This position
requires the ability to interpret and follow project-specific cartographic
standards and procedures, as well as to recommend modifications to these
standards and procedures as required by changes in software capability or
workflow efficiency.

Requires strong conceptual and technical skills in GIS/cartography,
including experience with ArcGIS 9.x mapping software (including ArcMap and
ArcCatalog).  Experience with or interest in learning ArcPad, Python
scripting, and advanced GIS processing skills would be helpful.  Knowledge
of  San Francisco Bay geography, especially locations of tidal marshes, a
plus.

Must be detail-oriented and able to perform work accurately and efficiently.
Must have sufficient GIS and map production experience to be able to quickly
learn, implement and, if appropriate, suggest improvements to our project’s
existing mapping procedures.  Must be flexible and adaptable to changing
requirements and deadlines as necessary to meet changing needs of the
project and its partners. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
with short deadlines (especially during field season, June – October).

Hours & Pay Rate

Hours are flexible and will vary from 5 – 20 hours/week depending on project
needs.  Pay rate $15-20/hour based on experience.  (No benefits are
available for this position.)
