There's a flaw in this logic:

> I would like to caution not to put too much weight
> on people who speak
> about the end of civilization. James Howard Kunstler
> used to be part of
> LaRouche's political organization which is more a
> sect than anything else.

Discrediting Kunstler wouldn't invalidate all "people
who speak about the end of civilization". Kunstler is
only one of many who are commenting on these issues.
He is only a social critic, and has rather
idiosyncratic views at times (though I've never seen
anything connecting him to LaRouche - can you cite a
source?), so I prefer to pay attention to the
scientists and technical specialists who have brought
peak oil to our attention and who actually crunch the
numbers on how much oil can be replaced by other
energy sources.

See www.theoildrum.com, www.peakoil.net, writings of
Colin Campbell (starting with the late-90's article in
Scientific American), Kenneth Deffeyes, Matthew
Simmons, and the original work of Hubbert in the
'60's. Once you get started you will find a wealth of
material, and you can judge each source for yourself.
