Analyst James Howard Kunstler just gave a speech to the Commonwealth Club of
San Francisco. The transcript is available at the link above. Kunstler
describes a dramatically changing world in the aftermath of the passage of
the peak of world oil production, which may have already occurred. He
discusses the denial of society, the unwillingness of politicians to tackle
known reality, and the fantasies of those who cannot wrap their minds around
the reality that the world is changing forever in fundamental ways.

Kunstler describes how virtually all aspects of our daily lives will be
radically altered, from housing to transportation to food supply and on and
on. Immense challenges will face our society as well as us as individuals
to survive and carry on on a daily basis in a radically altered world.

These are the things we had better begin to think about seriously, in my
opinion, because the theory of unsustainability of our civilization is about
to become reality, in my opinion. I think that Kunstler does a great job of
laying out a plausible scenario of what we might expect moving forward, even
in the remainder of this decade.
