I'm trying to find a relatively inexpensive rangefinder with accuracy down to about 0.1-0.2 decimeters for field use (measuring distances to tree trunks). The units available through Forestry Suppliers have lower accuracy (typically 1 yard), are not suited to outdoor forested environments, or are expensive ($700 - $2000). We plan to use the rangefinder over relatively short distances (within 0-30 m, typically).
Does anyone have recommendations? I've heard from a colleague that some of the older, non-laser rangefinders (which don't seem to be available anymore) actually had better accuracy/resolution over short distances. =20 Mark D.
