The Tropical Audubon Society seeks a qualified candidate for its = full-time=20 Executive Director position involving environmental advocacy, = fundraising,=20 and administrative duties. The position is available now and will be = filled=20 as soon as possible.
The selected candidate is expected to work in coordination with partner = NGOs=20 and under the direction of the TAS Board of Directors. The Executive=20 Director is expected to maintain the organization's position as one of = the=20 most influential conservation voices in Miami-Dade County and be = recognized=20 as a local and regional conservation leader. Duties Formulate and execute environmental policies in support of the Chapter's = conservation mission. This position requires research of issues,=20 consultation and coordination with legal, scientific and policy = authorities=20 and colleagues, as well as direct communication, advocacy and = negotiation=20 with policy-makers, government and agency staff, land owners, and = developers=20 as well as the public in general. Frequent public speaking is required, = as=20 is representing TAS in various capacities on advisory boards, task = forces=20 and coalitions. TAS utilizes its close relationships with allied=20 organizations and individuals and all policy work must be done in this=20 context, including especially other Audubon entities. Lead TAS fundraising through board engagement and personal efforts, and=20 maintain or increase contributions from major donors and foundations. = This=20 position requires grant writing and management, donor solicitation and=20 acknowledgement, relationship building, and financial oversight as well = as=20 identification of other methods to secure funding to support the=20 organization, such as providing services for hire. Administer and manage Chapter business, including but not limited to:=20 obtaining annual registrations and renewals and producing required = reports;=20 maintaining the membership roster; producing the bimonthly newsletter;=20 coordinating Chapter events; initiating media contacts and providing = public=20 relations; grassroots organizing; coordinating volunteers; supporting=20 fieldtrip and birding programs; updating the website; and representing = the=20 Chapter at community and environmental events. Working conditions Considerable travel throughout Southeastern Florida is required as is=20 personal transportation. Territory includes Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, = Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie Counties. Occasional travel outside the = territory will also be required. This position will operate out of the = TAS=20 office in South Miami utilizing TAS equipment. This is a full time = position.=20 Some flexibility in work scheduling is possible and sometimes required.=20 Evening and weekend hours are frequently necessary. Qualifications Bachelors degree (preferably in environmental policy or sciences). = Higher=20 educational degree and bilingual language skills are preferred. Paid or=20 volunteer experience in environmental conservation and/or fundraising=20 constitutes important assets. Strong personal and interpersonal=20 communications ability is vital. Computer and usual software facility is = necessary. Self-direction and organizational ability are important. = Passion=20 for the environment and a sense of humor are big plusses.
