My knowledge of Armenian (Himalaya) blackberry, Rubus discolor, is just observational and experiential, but I doubt that is a phreatophyte. It seems to grow well on a wide variety of sites and soils, including streambanks and uplands. When you pull or dig it up, the roots do not seem to go very deep.
