As an addition to my previous post: Just at the right time, this editorial was published today: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/10/opinion/10friedman.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin What I see as the job of academic scientists is to instill students with enough inspiration, understanding, commitment, backbone, and responsibility to be able to develop the courage and energy needed to rise up. Of course not all scientists need to become activists. But scientists can help immensely by promoting others to do that job, by passing on the relevant scientific information, combined with a sense of urgency, and clear outlines on what everybody can and needs to do. If you would like somebody else to come to your class and give a lecture on climate change, then please register for a free presentation in your class at www.theclimateproject.org. Please pass this information on to any colleague who might be interested. Maiken
