The Wissahickon Restoration Volunteers (WRV) seeks a Field Director
to assist in carrying out its field program.
WRV is a ten year-old community-based, grassroots organization
focused on restoring the natural areas of the Wissahickon Valley
Park, a 1,800-acre park owned and operated by the Fairmount Park
Commission in Philadelphia, PA. Office is located in the East
Falls/Manayunk neighborhood of Philadelphia.
Responsibilities
* Responsible for implementation of field program as directed by
Steering Committee and Restoration Committee Chair.
* Organize and direct the volunteer work crews that carry out our
programs in reforestation, trail repair, and invasive plant removal.
* Coordinate assignment of crew leaders and volunteer groups to projects.
* Lead field work sessions, with volunteer groups and others.
* Recruit and train crew leaders.
* Assist in development of restoration plans.
* Maintain a field work schedule.
* Maintain a record of field activities, sites, and plants.
* Provide input for grant and project progress reporting.
* Assist Director in grant writing and grant administration.
* Develop plant lists for restoration and coordinate purchase and delivery.
* Assume responsibility for maintaining order in the tool shed.
* Order tools and field equipment when needed.
* Coordinate field activities with the Fairmount Park Commission and
other agencies.
* Additional work as needed.
Skills Required
* Interest and passion for the restoration of the Wissahickon Valley Park.
* Knowledge and experience with basic restoration techniques and
plant identification.
* Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities and
effectively interact with an advisory board.
* Ability to work effectively with, lead, and motivate volunteers.
* Interest in outdoor field work, as well as indoor office work.
Salary, Hours, etc.
$15 per hour, part-time (20 hours a week average) and seasonal (9
months, March - November,), or as needed.
Season and hours flexible, may be adaptable to candidate's
needs. Project grants may increase level of work.
Flexible hours with occasional evening meetings and seasonal weekend
work required.
Car necessary for field visits. Office located 1 block from the R6
East Falls train station.
