The International Crane Foundation (ICF) invites applications for the 
position of Interpretive Program Manager.

Background: The ICF is a conservation organization committed to 
safeguarding the world’s 15 species of cranes and the ecosystems in which 
they live. ICF uses the charisma of cranes to bring diverse people 
together to solve problems of significance for wildlife and people.  To 
gain understanding and support for our efforts, ICF maintains live bird 
displays of all 15 species of cranes and runs a visitors program for the 
public during all but the winter months.  ICF is embarking on making a 
significant transformation to our publicly accessible central campus 
through the expansion of live bird displays and the enhancement of 
interpretive exhibitry, programs and services.  

Duties: ICF seeks a professional in the field of interpretive programs, 
visitor services, and exhibit planning, development, implementation and 
evaluation.  The successful candidate will lead the Conservation Education 
Department’s on-site interpretive and visitors programs.  S/he will lead 
the department’s contribution to site improvements; the planning and 
development of new interpretive materials and services; and, the 
evaluation and improvement of existing interpretive materials and 
services.  S/he will also provide oversight to the visitors program, 
supervising a diverse group including one full time staff member, a number 
of seasonal naturalist interns, occasional international interns, and a 
large number of volunteers.  S/he will work closely with peer program 
staff and management to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the 
visitors and interpretive programs.   Some national and potentially 
international travel is expected.

Required: The successful candidate will have:
•Degree or equivalent experience/coursework in Environmental 
Interpretation, Environmental Education/Studies, Natural Sciences, 
Education, Parks and Recreation, Biological or Earth Sciences, or other 
related fields; 
•Experience designing interpretive displays, writing interpretive 
materials, and/or evaluating interpretive programs and exhibits;  
•Proven communication, supervisory and leadership skills;
•Excellent communication and presentation skills; 
•Experience interacting with and inspiring a wide variety of audiences;
•Experience working across disciplines and cultures;
•Ability to work independently and to effectively multitask and prioritize 
work; 
•Two or more years of relevant professional experience.

Desired:  Preference will be given to individuals with training and 
experience in one or more of the following: 

•interpretive program development
•interpretive exhibit planning and design
•nature interpretation
•environmental education
•graphic design 
•creative and/or scientific writing
•web site development
