JOB ANNOUNCEMENT.   Aviculturists (2), International Crane Foundation

Background: The ICF is a conservation organization committed to 
safeguarding the world’s 15 species of cranes and the ecosystems in which 
they live. ICF uses the charisma of cranes to bring diverse people 
together to solve problems of significance for wildlife and people.  
Description:  Two Aviculturist positions are available immediately.  Both 
positions require a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, or an Associate 
Degree plus work experience, and experience in animal husbandry, 
especially with birds. General duties include: care and breeding of 100-
120 cranes, mostly endangered species; routine husbandry; pen cleaning; 
behavioral and health observations of cranes; and pen maintenance.  
Seasonal or periodic duties include: helping with all aspects of crane 
breeding; training interns, volunteers and visiting colleagues; and 
rearing Whooping Cranes (Grus americana) for release. Some additional 
experience is strongly desired: breeding captive birds; egg incubation; 
artificial insemination; chick rearing; research and data analysis; 
scientific publication; reintroduction methods; and skill in interpreting 
bird behavior.  Candidates should have good verbal and written 
communication skills, and the ability to work well in a close team, Must 
be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, and work outdoors in all types of 
weather. Limited travel might be required.  The first position requires 
experience maintaining animal facilities and displays, including ability 
to make minor repairs.  The second position requires up-to-date computer
