My daughter, a one-time linguist of native languages, referred me to the 
ouaouaron (pronounced wawaron), a French Canadian word (she thinks it is 
mainly Acadian) for bullfrog from the Iroqouis.

Le ouaouaron ou wawaron (Lithobates catesbeianus, auparavant Rana 
catesbeiana), est la plus grosse espèce de grenouille d'Amérique du Nord. 
Elle a été introduite dans de nombreux pays du monde et est aujourd'hui 
qualifiée d'espèce invasive. Le mot ouaouaron est d'origine iroquoise. Elle 
est appelée aussi grenouille mugissante ou grenouille-taureau (de l'anglais 
bullfrog).
