Dear Shelly-

I have been teaching a bioethics course at the University of Denver for
the last few years; I have faced your dilemma and would love to know
what others have found. The primary text that we use is:

Bioethics and the new embryology by Gilbert, Tyler and Zackin

With case studies borrowed from Dr. Whitbeck's Online Ethics Center:

http://www.onlineethics.org/

As you can tell from the title of the textbook, it's focus is medical
issues, and the online ethics center has an engineering bias, but we
supplement this with various readings on environmental ethics, including
resources compiled by Dr. Epstein (formerly at SFSU) found at:

http://online.sfsu.edu/%7Erone/Environ/EnvironEthicsReadings.html

As a biologist, it is difficult to teach a philosophy course, but I
co-teach it with someone in the biomedical field and we generate very
interesting discussions on how one makes ethical decisions as a
scientist and as a citizen on scientific issues. I would be happy to
discuss our course with you further if you are interested.
