SAVE November 12, 2008 for the:
Bird Conservation Alliance (BCA) Fall Meeting November 12, 2008

Migration Matters, Building Support for Migratory Bird Conservation
At The Nature Conservancy World Headquarters in Arlington, VA.

This BCA meeting will be full of migratory bird conservation discussions. We
will discuss the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act; current projects
funded by the act; are they working and what projects are needed to address
issues facing migratory birds? We will discuss our capacity to engage the
general public in bird conservation issues and campaigns and how we can work
together to gain more funding for conservation work concerning migratory birds.
We will look at regions throughout the Americas and explore current and
possible partnerships - what works, what doesn't, and what we want. Come
prepared to share your projects, experiences and desires.

Support Reauthorization of the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act
The Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act (NMBCA) of 2000, established a
matching grants program that supports bird conservation in the US, Canada,
Latin America, and the Caribbean. These projects promote and foster the long-
term conservation of neotropical migratory birds and their habitats. However,
each year, grant requests far exceed the program's available funding.

NMBCA has a proven record of making a difference for neotropical migratory
birds, and the reauthorization and appropriated funding should be significantly
increased. H.R. 5756, introduced by Reps Kind (D-WI) and Gilchrest (R- MD) will
reauthorize NMBCA at $20 million.
